Decolonize, de-Imperialize, and Restore Sovereignty

In the Strategy for the Liberation of Palestine by the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, Ghassan Kanafani wrote "Everything in this world can be robbed and stolen, except one thing; this one thing is the love that emanates from a human being towards a solid commitment to a conviction or cause.” In December 2010, the spread of uprisings across North Africa and the Middle East represented a concerted effort by students and other young people who were discontented with the standards of living, unemployment, corruption, lack of equality and so forth.

Not only did the Arab Spring produce civil conflicts that continued for many years but the problems that sparked uprisings remained important issues in 2022 exemplified by the inflation, rising energy prices, corruption, global warming, growing militarism and social inequality. In Counterpunch, Steve Kelly writes "A transformation is always brewing, cycling.  It’s a good time to imagine and embrace with conviction a future with fewer lies and a whole lot less corruption, chaos and mass murder for fun and profit by, and for, the parasite class."

In light of providing a voice of resistance and awareness of current and pertinent political, social, and economic issues, Black Rose Books strives to continuously publish books that challenge the status quo and provide alternative perspectives. We hope that with our 2023 program and collection, we can continue to inform and strengthen voices on a variety of important topics.

Here's to 2023!
